Marco Rossi
Co-Founder & Executive Chef
Born in Naples, Marco brings 25 years of authentic Italian pizza craftsmanship to every Luce creation. His wood-fired technique and sourdough mastery are the cornerstone of our kitchen.
From a single Charlotte kitchen to a beloved uptown destination — discover the heart behind every slice.
Pizza Luce was born from a simple but powerful belief: that a great pizza can transform an ordinary day into something extraordinary. Founded in 2009 by Marco and Elena Rossi, our first wood-fired oven came from a small village in Campania, Italy — and with it, the traditions of generations of pizzaiolos.
"We didn't want to just open a restaurant. We wanted to create a place where every bite felt like a memory."
What began as a tiny 20-seat spot in South End has grown into Charlotte's most beloved uptown pizzeria, now nestled in the heart of the Truist Center. But despite our growth, our commitment to handcrafted quality has never wavered.
Every dough is made fresh each morning. Every sauce is simmered from whole San Marzano tomatoes. Every ingredient is sourced from local farms or trusted Italian importers. That dedication to quality — to luce, the Italian word for light — is what sets every Pizza Luce experience apart.
Everything we do at Pizza Luce is guided by four foundational principles that shape our food, our culture, and our community.
We source only the finest local produce and authentic Italian imports — because great pizza starts long before the oven.
Every dough is hand-stretched, every sauce slow-simmered, every pizza assembled with care. No shortcuts, ever.
We are proud members of the Charlotte community. We give back, partner locally, and celebrate the neighborhood that made us.
Our kitchen is fueled by a relentless love of food. We innovate, experiment, and push the boundaries of what pizza can be.
From humble beginnings to Charlotte's favorite pizza destination — here's how it all happened.
Marco and Elena Rossi open the original Pizza Luce in a 20-seat South End space. A Campanian wood-fired oven imported from Italy becomes the soul of the kitchen.
Pizza Luce wins "Best New Restaurant" at the Charlotte Food Awards — the first of many accolades that put us firmly on the city's culinary map.
Growing demand leads to our first major expansion — a full renovation that doubled our seating capacity and introduced a dedicated catering operation.
We formalise partnerships with five local North Carolina farms, committing to source seasonal produce within 150 miles of Charlotte wherever possible.
Pizza Luce moves to its flagship location inside the prestigious Truist Center, 214 N Tryon St, bringing handcrafted pizza to Charlotte's vibrant uptown core.
Over 200,000 guests served, a 4.9-star rating, and the same wood-fired passion as day one. The Luce family continues to craft unforgettable pizza for Charlotte every single day.
Talented, passionate, and dedicated — our team brings decades of culinary experience and a shared love of great food to every service.
